About Us

The Background

Trident’s history goes back to 1969 when it was formed as a small independent company. In the 1970’s we sold, at different times, three exhibitions to what was to become Reed Exhibition Companies. In 1983 Trident became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reed and in 1985 John Thewlis was appointed managing director of Trident and joined the board of Reed Exhibitions. In 1989 Trident Exhibitions Ltd became independent again.

Trident has therefore traded successfully for many years and has the skills and experience (several of the staff have worked for the company in excess of 10 years) to organise and promote exhibitions for a wide variety of industries.

Notable show titles created and run by Trident include Compec, Transducer, Tempcon, The Energy Show, Breadboard,Testmex and Mobilexpo.

Since then, Trident Exhibitions Ltd has run successful shows targeting many niche areas in the manufacturing industry and worked closely with such prestigious associations as SID (Society for Information Display), JEMI (Joint Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Initiative) and SEE (Society of Environmental, Engineers), as well as trade publications like Industrial Technology.

Trident Exhibitions Ltd has not limited its exhibitions exclusively to the UK, but successfully launched Vacuum & Semiconductor Processing in Munich, Germany and Cellexpo in Johannesburg, South Africa. Cellexpo was finally sold to TML Reed in 2000.

In 2007 Trident sold their market leading national exhibitions to Canon Communications, including:

IPOT – image processing and optical technology
Machine Vision
 – the UK’s leading vision event
Mtec – sensors, measurement and instrumentation
Machine Building – the exhibition for machine building, automation and design
EID – electronic information displays
Practical Vacuum – incorporating semiconductor processing
3C – contamination control and cleanroom products

Trident still retains a presence in the manufacturing market with the regional Instrumentation exhibitions, whose venues are strategically located to enable visitors to see a wide range of companies and products all under one roof and on their doorstep. These include the biennial Instrumentation Scotland & Offshore Systems in Aberdeen, which celebrates its tenth, show in 2012.

In 2011 Sensors + Systems for Control & Instrumentation was launched at FIVE in Farnborough. This focused event reinforces how important Instrumentation is for the design and implementation of measuring, monitoring and actuation systems and in data acquisition and processing, playing nowadays a major in many technological areas, including certification, control and information. In 2012 Trident Exhibitions came together with Datateam Business Media and is now working, in partnership with them, on the national Sensors & Instrumentation show and The Machine Building Show. These events will happen in 2013 at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

Trident Exhibitions acquired a series of Creative Crafts Shows in 2007 marking a major shift to consumer events. An area Trident already had experience in with the Buxton Antiques Fair. With venues across the country from Belfast to Essex, Leeds to Esher, Surrey, Malvern to Shepton Mallet, the Creative Crafts shows cater for crafters of all ages whether an experienced crafter or a novice.
